Only When We are Free From Money Can We Freely Ask for Money

“If our security is totally in God, then we are free to ask fro money. Only when we are free from money can we ask freely for others to give it..” (Nouwen, p. 43)

If fundraisers are jealous of the money others have, and covet their money, then they are not freely asking people to invest in ministry. They may actually feel anger toward people who have money and believe they ought to have a lot of money too. Asking for money out of anger or jealousy is inappropriate, and perhaps even a sin. Fundraising must always be a holy experience of asking people to invest in the mission of God.
