If you are a youth group leader – volunteer or paid – or many other positions in a church, you may from time-to-time come up with a wild idea that your pastor (or Tommy Lee Jones as seen in this picture) thinks is the craziest idea they have ever heard.
How does it feel when they look over their glasses at you with a look of disgust on their face? Often ministers – especially pastors – have a lot of things going on in their mind. They may have had a difficult week. They may have been putting out relational fires. They may have finally gotten most everything settled and they’re relaxing.
Then you come up with a new idea you believe is great and will be wonderful. But to them it will start more fires they have to put out within the church fellowship.
Your reaction should be to love them anyway. Perhaps you would even commit this month to not expressing some of those cutting-edge ideas but giving the ministers around you a break and just show multiple signs of appreciation for them.
