A heavy weight many congregations drag behind them is their past. It is sufficiently heavy and the chains that tie it to the congregation are strong. Many congregations cannot be freed from their past.

The past is about the glory days when a certain pastor was present, the worship center was full weekly and not just on Easter, and the preschool and children areas were busy and exciting places to observe. The past is also before that year when a major conflict erupted in the church that led to one-third of the congregation leaving.
