There is no problem if congregations look back to understand, respect, and learn from the past. This works when they are using what they know about the past to build a future under God’s leadership that is vital and vibrant.

Many of the positive patterns, strengths, and significant characteristics of a congregation today and into God’s future for them can be found in their past. How these characteristics are expressed and the style with which they are implemented are often different.

It is roots that remain strong and consistent. It is the branches that change, grow, and are pruned perennially.
