Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–Fourth Sunday, June 2019
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, I am thankful this weekend for the arrival of summer. Most of all I am thankful for the warmth, the glow, and the excitement of a life filled with the worship and praise of You as our Triune God. May the spiritual excitement I feel in my heart, soul, mind, and strength be obvious to my congregation as I lead in worship and proclaim the Living Word—Jesus the Christ. May I not point people to me as their pastor, but to You as their Lord and Savior. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, I love all seasons of the year, but there is something special about summer. Children are out of school and we can do some things with them we could not do at other times. Yet, in the same way educators tell us that children regress in what they have learned during the previous school year, is it possible that a more casual attendance at church worship in the summer causes regression in my relationship with You? I hope not. Yet I see the danger and ask You to challenge me in my spiritual walk throughout the summer. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
