Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–Fourth Sunday, October 2018
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, as a pastor at times I am conflicted about my role. Books I read, seminars I attend, leaders I talk to, and people connected with my congregation keep telling me they want bold, demonstrable leadership from me. To an extent I get it. I want to be the leader of a great church. At the same time, I want to be a Christian who provides mercy – a purveyor of compassion and forgiveness. Which is right? When is each right? What is the time and place for each? Most especially I want to be the leader You want me to be. May that conviction guide my daily walk as pastor. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord of mercy, I need your compassion and forgiveness every day and all that time. May I be open to the presence of Your Holy Spirit and deeply feel Your presence and Your forgiving compassion. May I when I connect with my congregation for worship, discipleship, fellowship, and missional engagement experience a community of compassion and forgiveness. Yes, I need to be challenged to be a more fervent follower of Jesus. But, at the same time in my weakness I need the strength of my congregation’s compassion and forgiveness. Amen.
