Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–Fourth Sunday, September 2018
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, what a time for prayer and compassion! You, Jesus, taught us to pray so beautifully in the Lord’s Prayer and in the Garden of Gethsemane. By the life you lived, Jesus, You taught us by words and deeds the true spirit and real-life actions of compassion. Because of the floods that are still taking place in the Carolinas, and in Asia, may my words and actions this Sunday show people the prayerful life and action of compassion we need to continue to learn from You. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, as we think about the tragedy of the rain, wind, and floods nearby, and the even worse story in Asia this past week, we are reminded of the Matthew 25 inasmuch passage. May we use these tragedies as an opportunity to renew our desire to show compassion to the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the imprisoned. May compassion pour out of us in prayers, financial support, sending resources, and going as that is You call on us. May this not be a fleeting thought, but a permanent commitment to be examples of Your compassion. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
