Prayers for Pastors and Congregations–Fourth Weekend of February

A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, this has been a week where the right to bear arms and guns in schools have been major issues everywhere we turn. Each of us as pastors certainly have strong convictions on this. Help us to remember we are the key Christ-representative who share God’s message for our congregations. Our people need and authentic word from God. May we prayerfully ask You to give us the words to say that speak uniquely to Your unconditional love for all people, rather than taking stands that are more characteristic of an American civil religion approach. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, this has been week of unsettling discussions about guns, schools, teachers, safety, and where the unconditional love of God through Jesus Christ versus our citizenship fit in. May we go to worship this weekend seeking a clear word from You of comfort and challenge. How should we respond? What is a Christ-like response? How do we protect our families? How do we protect our church? We pray for clarity and peace. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
