Prayers for Pastors and Congregations–Last Weekend of January
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, I do not want to make excuses about my sermon, but I am struggling this week. I am not sure if it was the distraction of the family who experienced a tragedy, my daughter who needed her daddy, or the tough meeting with the finance committee, but I do not feel ready for Sunday morning. This is one of those Sundays I realize my dependence on You is of core importance. May Your Holy Spirit give me the inspiration, the focus, and the spiritual passion to let Your words shine through and touch the hearts of those gathered in worship this Sunday. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, it is hard to believe we have almost finished a month of this new year. Januarys are always crazy. New opportunities. New challenges. New spiritual insights. New sacred cows of congregational culture we have tripped over once again. And, already broken resolutions for a new beginning in crucial places of our lives. Perhaps are ought to all gather for worship and once again in the spirit of Psalm 51 to ask You to create within us a clean heart. To renew a right spirit with us. May this be so as we gather for worship, fellowship, and discipleship. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
