Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–Mother’s Day Sunday, May 2018
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, on this Mother’s Day weekend help me share an authentic message from You that will inspire, challenge and call for a high respect for women—especially those who are blessed by motherhood. That message is not as simple as it once was. How do I deal with the #MeToo movement of the recent past? I can’t just say “Not Me” and ignore the fact that some women I am speaking to have been abused. How do I speak of the love between a mother and a child when I hear of illegal immigrant mothers and children being separated from one another? I must have more to say than, “It is the law.” Give me Your words of love to speak. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, this is one of those special weekends when going to worship can be both a highly meaningful and a highly emotional time. I know I will look around and see mothers who have lost children—prior to or after they were born. Mothers who are blessed by the presence of their children this weekend in worship and family fellowship. Mothers who are estranged from their children. Mothers-to-be who are wondering what raising a child will be like. Amidst this diversity let us be thankful for your unconditional love for all mothers, fathers, and children. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
