Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–On the Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 2018

A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, words like joy, hospitality, encouragement, and welcome come to my mind as I prepare to proclaim once again the birth of the Christ child. As I preach, teach, pray, greet people and listen to their heart, anticipate with great remembrance the coming of our Savior in the world may I exhibit a spirit of welcome. All are welcome to receive Your unconditional love. All are welcome to come and worship You. May we be proactive in inviting and including everyone. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, as I prepare for worship in the days leading up to Christmas Eve, I am reminded that I will see in my congregation people who are not typically present. May I have an open spirit and actions of welcome to the college student home for a few days, family members who show up at various holidays, and guests from our community who come for special services. May I especially show the Lord’s welcome to spiritual seekers who decide to wander into church to find out what this Jesus child is all about. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
