Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–Second Sunday, July 2018
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, I am grateful for the people who gather on this Sunday in our church building to worship You. I wonder if instead of gathering in our building we were to meet outside in our neighborhood? Would we be accepted by our neighbors? Would they be amazed we have come to connect with them? Would they accept Your teaching, or would they reject it because we have been bad neighbors? Are we like Jesus in Mark 6:1-6 who was not accepted in his own neighborhood? It is a scary question I am not sure I want answered right now. Help me to desire the answer. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, it is already the middle of the summer. Thoughts of school starting back up are beginning to emerge. Our church has already had Vacation Bible School We invited the neighborhood into our church for VBS. Some came. What if we were to return the visit and go out into the neighborhood? What would that be like? Would we be accepted, or would we be seen as salespeople trying to get people to buy something. How can we share You love in a genuine way that it would be received? Help me to know. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
