Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–Second Sunday, June 2018
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, this Sunday is a great time to celebrate our love for and appreciation of children. You know that we have so many things planned for children this summer. While today is not a religious holiday, yet many cultural settings celebrate it as National Children’s Day. May I clearly proclaim this day the Living Word—Jesus the Christ—who did not want anything to inhibit the ability of children to draw close to His love for them. May my message and my actions speak into the hearts of children this day that they may discover the love of Jesus for them. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, it is summer, and my children are ever near me. I love them. I want them to feel my love. I also recognize that too many children are loved in principle but abused in practice. This brings great sorry to me, especially in days when we hear immigrant children are forcefully separated from their parents. I do not understand the rightness of this. I only know this statement of Garrison Keillor rings in my ears—“Nothing you do for children is ever wasted.” Help me, O Lord, to understand. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
