Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–Second Sunday, October 2018
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, there are days when I ponder with a certain degree of sadness that I have not been effective in helping my congregation understand true, deep, meaningful discipleship as followers of Jesus. I know my task is to be faithful and Your Holy Spirit convicts and guides. But still, I take on a lot of personal responsibility. Many people have not gotten beyond the initial questions in the passage we call the Rich Young Ruler. Help my frustration. I too often wonder if my ministry is ineffective. I need Your assurance today. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, I am a good person. I have attended church since I was a child. I understand how to be a Christian. But this weekend I was reading the story we call the Rich Young Ruler again and realized there are still things I have not put aside to follow Jesus. I hang on to cultural practices, morals, and prejudices. Perhaps I need to cry out – “Help my unbelief!” Convict me, O Lord, of my cultural Christianity. Amen.
