Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–The Fourth Sunday of May 2019
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, this is an annual weekend of panic. We have several things we realize we must get done before people scatter for the summer. It will be hard to pull the full complement of leaders together after the next week or two. Staff and volunteers are hurrying about to get the summer programs like Vacation Bible School set up. Families are taking that first truly summer vacation weekend. Will we have enough volunteers to staff everything this Sunday? At the same time, this is a weekend to remember our freedom as a nation and those who fought for it. May I be able when people desire to focus on country to show once more that it is the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus that truly gives us freedom. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, I am so glad that summer is just around the corner. Children will be out-of-school which is a blessing for a few weeks until we begin wishing school would start back. Summer is a change of pace that we all need. At times like these, I am sorry I have all those responsibilities in my church as I would like a break from some of them. At the same time, people who have been dear friends are leaving town for jobs, education, retirement. New people will be coming to town who need to connect with a Christ-centered faith community. I do need some “me” time but help me to also remember that people need the Lord and a compassionate community of faith. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
