Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–The Third Sunday of April 2018
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, the politics of war can so easily creep into conversations around churches on Sundays. This is particularly true with the Friday night assault on Syria in response to their use of chemical weapons. The Middle East has for centuries been the location of war and ongoing conflict. There is nothing that can bring true peace to this part of the world, or any part of the war, except for the unconditional love of God through Jesus Christ. May I unapologetically and boldly preach the peace of Jesus this Sunday. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, I was scared the week, and especially Friday night and Saturday morning, over the possibility of the civil war in Syria drawing our country into a military conflict with Russia and other countries. I could not sleep Friday night worrying about it. I especially want to go to church this Sunday to hear words of comfort. How should I respond as a Christian? How should I deal with my fears? I know Jesus brings true peace but is that enough when many countries have weapons that can destroy so many lives. Just give me Jesus. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
