Prayers for Pastors and Congregations–Third Weekend of February
A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, on this weekend when many people are celebrating the three-day weekend that culminate in Presidents’ Day on Monday, I approach worship recalling our need to pray for our government leaders—particularly the sitting President. I am reminded of 1 Timothy 2:1-2 that says, “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” (NASB) May we faithfully pray for all leaders. May by church members—even those not present this Sunday—take a minute to pray for me. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, the early signs of Spring are obvious all around in South Carolina. On days of sunshine and warmth we already feel like getting outside both Saturdays and Sundays. Spring outdoor sports for our children and grandchildren have already started. College baseball games have begun. Again this year arises the perennial question of “Why is it I go to church on sunny, warm Spring days?” Help us to remember it is not because the church needs us, but because we need to draw aside and worship and praise You. There is nothing better than the feeling we have connecting with You and the peace that only You can bring. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
