Prayers For Pastors and Congregations–On the Second Sunday of Advent, December 2018

A Prayer for Pastors: O Lord, on this second Sunday of Advent I consider the ministry of John the Baptist as he prepared the way for the coming of the Jesus. May I during this weekend see my role as preparing my congregation and community for the long-anticipated Messiah. For those who claim Christ may I help them renew that experience in their lives. For those who do not know Jesus as their Savior and Lord, may I help them to gain insight into what it would mean to live as a person of unconditional love. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

A Prayer for Congregations: O Lord, the rush of the season is upon me. I do not know which I will run out of first before December 25th—time, money, energy, or patience. May I take a deep breath and remember the reason for the season. May I pause and ask You regularly to fill me with the warmth of the reality of the Christ child. May I unapologetically yet with authenticity speak of the love of God through Jesus Christ when interacting with all people, but especially those who need to experience Jesus as Savior and Lord. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
