Sunday, June 30, 2019: “A Call to Action” An Uncommon Experience with God’s Word. The first of at least seven uncommon characteristics of the very early church was an uncommon experience with God’s Word. Consider Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

What expressions of God’s Word did the very early church have following the day of Pentecost? First, they had the Living Word of God – Jesus the Christ. “In the beginning was the Word and the Word with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,” (John 1:14).

Second, they had the Voice of God. “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;” (John 10:27). Third, they had scrolls and the memorization of these scrolls that were the beginning of the collection of inspired writings that were the written Word of God that were later canonized into our current Bible of 66 books.

The most uncommon and extraordinary expression of God’s Word available to the very early church was the testimony of the Apostles. They had spent three years experiencing the Living Word of God and his relationship with his Father. This was the most powerful expression in that it immediately connected with so many people. It helped people to demythologize what it is like to relate to God the Father. It showed them in real time the real-life experiences of the Living Word of God.

I call you to an uncommon experience of God’s Word as you benefit from the full expression of the Word of God. May it be an uncommon experience for you that sets you apart as a follower of Jesus.
